Clinical Hemorrhage Management Workshop

On July 1-2, 2023, a Clinical Hemorrhage Management Workshop took place in Heraklion, Crete, organized by the Anesthesiology Clinic of the University Hospital of Heraklion, under the leadership of Professor Alexandra Papaioannou.

During this event, physicians from various specialties were invited to present topics related to hemostasis and the management of hemorrhage in various scenarios, such as trauma, cardiac, intraoperative, and obstetric bleeding, as well as the latest guidelines from the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESAIC) for Patient Blood Management (PBM). Among the speakers was Dr. Andreas Calatzis, the inventor and manufacturer of the next-generation thromboelastometry analyzer ClotPro, which is distributed in Greece by Santair.

Various case-based scenarios regarding hemorrhage management were also presented at the skill stations in the simulation laboratory of the Medical School of Heraklion. The educational workshop concluded with a hemorrhage management scenario in the Emergency Department using a human educational simulator, where ClotPro was utilized in the treatment protocol.

We would like to express our gratitude to esteemed Professor Alexandra Papaioannou for the honorary invitation extended to our company, providing us the opportunity during the trauma scenario presentation to showcase the benefits derived from the use of thromboelastometry in the implementation of the Patient Blood Management program. This approach reduces unnecessary blood transfusions and enables targeted management of bleeding, either with blood products or medications such as fibrinogen concentrate and clotting factor concentrates.
